INTRODUCTION:

In this experiment we are going to talk about what is a schlenk tube, how to prepare it and for what we could use it. A schlenk tube is a laboratory equipment of glass consisting of a tube designed for the extraction of air to leave an inert gas or vacuum before introducing the chemicals.

What a Schlenck tube can be used for?

·         Working with a vacuum line

·         Working with chemicals under a “nitrogen atmosphere” when chemicals are v. reactive

·         Investigating properties of gasses

PROCEDURE:

1.    We get the schlenk tube, and smear vaseline, in order to make the parts move easily.
2.    Then, you swap up an elastic band around the schlenk tube, following the instructions of the video, so that it doesn’t move.
3.    After you get a stopper and you put it at the top of the schlenk tube to close it.
4.    To make it more secure, take another elastic band and swap it around the stopper.
